Dr. Alina Sholar

Female Board Certified Plastic Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgeon

Alina D Sholar, MD is a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is highly trained in all aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including reconstructive breast surgery, burn surgery, and all aspects of aesthetic cosmetic surgery.  She is a Texas native who received her BS degree in Biomedical Science with Magna Cum Laude honors from Texas A&M University.  She went on to earn her MD degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch on a full tuition merit scholarship.  There she was awarded the prestigious Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Award and Achievement Citation for Women in Medicine.

Dr. Sholar then completed a full five-year residency in General Surgery at the University of Louisville where she was awarded the John W. Price Award for Excellence in Medical Student Instruction.  She then continued her study of surgery by completing an additional residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Tennessee.  During her Chief Resident year, she also received awards from the University of Tennessee for her research writing and presentation achievements, while also participating in medical missions such as Project Happy Faces for children with cleft lips and palates. Dr. Sholar continually seeks to sharpen her skills and stay ahead with current technology and trends in plastic surgery by participating in national conferences and organizations.

In addition to her more professional endeavors, Dr. Sholar is a medical illustrator and an accomplished artist.  Her artwork has been published in prestigious medical journals and textbooks such as the Annals of Plastic Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Journal, Annals of Surgical Oncology, and Cameron’s Current Surgical Therapy.  This artistic talent and understanding of human anatomy is demonstrated in her ability to create beautiful and natural enhancements in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.

One more important thing about Dr Sholar… she loves her weenie dogs! She has four Dachshunds and one Rottweiler, many of which were rescued, but came to capture her heart, although she does have a husband too.

Dr. Sholar’s philosophy:

“The greatest compliment that I can receive from a patient is when they are so satisfied that they refer a friend or family member.

While no plastic surgeon can promise perfection, I can promise a commitment to obtaining the best possible result for the individual I am treating. I believe in educating my patients as much as possible about the procedure they are choosing. When my patient is well informed and thoroughly understands the benefits and limitations of what can be achieved, she or he is more pleased with the final outcome.

I hope to not only show our patients how they can look better, but also to make them feel great on the inside, too.  That’s why I think plastic surgery is such a great field of medicine to be in.  It really is the medicine of being beautiful AND living well.”
